CPAP Hat Trick Solution Achieves 3 Goals; Is Similar to Transcend CPAP

Have you seen this yet? In a recent Huffington Post article by Dr. Michael J. Breus, he discusses a solution for keeping your CPAP mask more comfortable and, well, on your face.

Dr. Edward Michaelson came up with the idea because his goatee made it impossible to wear most CPAP masks. He claims that by wearing an ordinary baseball cap, you can achieve three goals:

1.       the cap reduces slippage of the top and back straps of the mask
2.        the cap functions as a spacer and minimizes scalp and facial strap marks, and
3.       the cap bill can reduce facial pressure related to the weight of the mask tubing.

The cap bill can also help lock the position of the mask tubing so it won’t be affected by head and body movements. He calls his solution the “CPAP Hat Trick”…like the hockey term “hat trick,” which means that a player has scored three goals in one game.

Pretty interesting. Dr. Michaelson also suggests that the CPAP Hat Trick will take some trial and error to achieve the most comfortable fit.

If you can wear a baseball cap to sleep in, you could be a great candidate for Transcend. The Transcend therapy system is worn on the head just like a baseball cap and—get this—it reduces facial pressure related to the weight of the tubing, minimizes the dreaded tube imprint on your cheek, and gives you freedom of movement and minimizes mask leakage. Really.
