New iPhone® App Records Your Snoring; Helps You Talk With Your Doctor

This is interesting. Now you can record yourself during sleep to learn if you might have sleep apnea. The ResMed Sleep Assessment app for iPhone® and iPod Touch® was just released this week. It includes a clinically validated questionnaire that assesses your risk and other features to provide information you can share with your physician.

According to Drew Terry, Sr.  Product Director at ResMed, "We wanted to develop a free, simple tool that will ultimately help people at risk for sleep apnea get on the path to diagnosis and treatment. We believe the ResMed Sleep Assessment app will encourage people to recognize their risk and seek medical help."

This app combines a clinically validated questionnaire that quantifies your risk of sleep apnea based on known characteristics with an overnight snore recorder. You can then compare your snoring to the snoring of an actual sleep apnea patient. Using the app is very simple. You simply start the app and set your iPhone or iTouch by your bedside before sleep. The device records you throughout the night. There’s a questionnaire you can fill and share the results with your physician. The app even comes with a sleep lab locator and soothing sounds you can play to help you drift off to sleep.

Cool.
