Not Getting Enough Zzzzs Could be Bad for You

If you’re a fan of the Transcend Facebook page, you probably recognize the importance of a good night’s sleep…especially if you depend on sleep apnea therapy to ensure you get your sleep.

Well, a recently published study—this one in the European Heart Journal and reprinted in Sleep Review—links prolonged sleep deprivation and disrupted sleep patterns with heart disease and stroke. The University of Warwick Medical School in the United Kingdom recently released research that reveals getting less than six hours of sleep each night and having disrupted sleep patterns increases your risk of developing and dying of heart disease and stroke by 48% and 15% respectively.

Over the years there have been other studies that investigated this same topic. What’s different about the recent published research by the University of Warwick Medical School is the size and breadth of the research—470,000 participants in eight countries including Japan, the United States, Sweden and the United Kingdom over a span of seven to 25 years.

The bottom line? Get your seven hours of restful sleep each night to stay healthy and live longer.
